Trump Flunks Nobel Peace Prize Tryout with Putin in Alaska
And made himself and the United States look the fool doing so.
Well, Putin won another one. He is an autocrat indicted by the International Criminal Court for Crimes against Humanity for running a child-kidnapping racket in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Once captured, the children have been transported to
Russia and put up for “adoption” by Russian families. How many? Some estimates by Ukraine and the US put the number at around 19,500. Russian bragging about it puts the number far higher. As the New York Post reports:
Ukrainian officials say at least 19,500 children remain unaccounted for, but … the Russian government has previously claimed far higher numbers. In 2023, Russian Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova cited 744,000 Ukrainian children as having been moved to Russia —before both she and President Vladimir Putin were indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes related to these deportations.
P.S. Maria Lvova-Belova took and is raising one of these children herself.
On the ruse that he’d make peace or at least progress towards peace with Ukraine, Vladimir Putin suckered Donald Trump into a “peace-making” summit on American soil. In a particular affront to Lisa Murkowski, who in the last months caved on major issues in a trade for perks for her home state—only to find out, as others have, that Trump never “pays his bills”—Trump placed the meeting in Alaska. It gets worse for Murkowski than that.
Scuttlebutt in recent days included reports that
Putin promised Trump money.
Trump promised Putin access to Alaska’s rich reserves of the rare earth elements (REEs), which are crucial to making more than 200 high-tech devices from cell phones to components for rockets. Murkowski must be in ruins.
Trump promised Putin access to India’s REEs and threatened India with higher tariffs if they didn’t capitulate.
Trump promised Putin all the areas in Ukraine he’s occupying right now (see map below, the pink parts) with no compensation for Ukraine. These areas would ensure Putin total control of the Sea of Azov, preventing a potentially NATO-member Ukraine from blocking Putin’s access to Crimea, the deep-water port of Sevastopol, control of the entire eastern shoreline of the Black Sea, and a potential domination of the Mediterranean, to the dismay of every country in Europe. P.S. Note that some of the occupied areas are in Georgia as Putin makes an effort to run his control all the way from the Russian Federation to the Turkish border. As he has Erdogan in his pocket already, much through the efforts of Elon Musk, who pulled the plug on Ukraine’s Starlink messaging on behalf of Putin during the siege of Donbas. And Putin can count on Turkey’s cooperation in exchange for making sure Erdogan “wins” the next election, from which he is legally barred from standing.
On the eve of this so-called “peace-making summit” Russia unleashed a huge barrage of explosives into Ukrainian territory. It was always clear that Putin would either have Donbas handed to him on a silver platter with no concessions made by him at all or take the PR victory and go home. Which is what he did.
And a massive PR victory it was: an indicted human-rights criminal, who would be instantaneously arrested should he set foot in any of the 163 countries that are signatories to the Rome Statutes, got a red-carpet welcome to the United States.
Well, why not. Netanyahu, also an indicted war criminal for the forced starvation of Palestinians in Gaza, is the one who came to the United States mere months ago and announced his nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize from the Oval Office of the man who is supposed to be the world’s greatest defender of freedom and democracy. What a racket.
And last week, desperate to get what Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and Barack Obama have, he cold-called a Norwegian dignitary to plead his case. From Politico:
U.S. President Donald Trump called Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg out of the blue last month to discuss trade tariffs — as well as his bid to win the Nobel Peace Prize. The call was first reported by Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv on Thursday and was later confirmed to POLITICO by a government official in Oslo. This was not the first time Trump had raised the prize in discussions with Stoltenberg, Dagens Næringsliv noted.
“It is true that President Trump called me a few days before his conversation with Prime Minister Støre. Several of the president’s staff members also participated in the conversation, including Treasury Secretary Bessent and Trade Representative Greer,” Stoltenberg, the former NATO secretary-general, told POLITICO in a comment.
That’s the Treasury Secretary and a U. S. Trade Representative on the line with Trump with Norway’s Finance Minister. So Trump linked tariffs against Norway to his winning of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The veiled threat should be obvious. The obvious hope is that Stoltenberg will pressure Norway’s Nobel Prize Committee into giving Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his being, presently, the world’s greatest possible threat to peace as well as America’s great embarrassment.
But wait a minute … The Nobel Prize is Swedish, right? So why is Trump harassing a Norwegian minister (who formerly administer NATO)?
Well, yeah, but the Nobel Peace Prize isn’t decided by the Swedish Committee. It’s decided by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is why Trump is lobbying the Norwegians, not the Swedes.
Here’s the fiercely independent Norwegian Nobel Committee, which has a target painted on it the size of Texas

This obsession with the Nobel Peace Prize will continue as long as Trump is in office and/or as long as he draws breath. And here is why:

Trump’s jealousy of Obama appears to be implacable, to the point he will stoop to accepting a nomination from a man accused of starving two million people and who last week claimed he would completely clear Gaza of every Palestinian—with the possibility, raised a few months ago, of giving Trump Gaza for a Trump oceanfront resort.
Trump’s “Putin Gambit” to stop the presses on the Epstein scandal, which, I predict, will take Trump down, will rapidly fade. Only Fox News continues to beat Trump’s drum, quoting Putin as saying that, had Trump won the 2020 election, the Russian Federation would never have illegally gone to war against Ukraine.
That’s probably true because Trump, going all “Yalta” on us, would have simply given the Donbas region of Ukraine to Putin without a shot fired, having already used Ukraine to lie about Hunter Biden.
Meanwhile, Putin upscaled the killing in Ukraine a day before this sordid summit, and Netanyahu killed more people waiting for food in the siege of Gaza that has left one of five Palestinian children in threat of immediate death from starvation.
And Putin’s PR victory in Moscow was over the moon. The press made jokes about cooking Chicken Kiev and touted Putin’s Alaska appearance as a major victory for Russia.
My prediction is that no matter what Trump does and no matter whom he cold-calls with purse-string holders on the line, the Norwegian Committee will not cave and will never award this man—who exonerates mass murder, mass child kidnapping, and the mass starvation of children at the behest of criminals like Putin and Netanyahu—the Nobel Peace Prize. They have too much honor for that, something Trump can’t understand.
‘Til tomorrow.

The Nobel Committee had better not cave to this most unworthy, grasping, covetous crook. Unlike the American universities, research institutions, media companies, law firms, and even the Smithsonian, the Nobel Prize organization does not need to fear funding cuts from the Federal largesse, so they should tell him in so many words to go screw himself. Politely, of course.
Thank you for this excellent ,informative post. Daily tears and anger , deep shame about how deep the corruption is. ✌️
