What *SHOULD* happen now is gun control. Don't stop trying.
It's second from the right, the .30-06 Springfield round. It is 3.15" long. From a German SNIPER RIFLE with a 1,000-yard range.
It’s axiomatic. The Mauser 98, the one used to kill Charlie Kirk, is not a gun for home defense. No gun you have to wield like this one does you any good at all because it takes too much time to turn the gun around. Home defense is where a pistol can come in very handy, and after we had a home invasion bent on burglary and my mother was seriously wounded trying to save her two little girls (one of them was me), my father had a gun in the house all the time, and he taught me to shoot it. He also had a Revolutionary War ball-shot rifle that I fired one time. The recoil threw me backwards 15 feet, and that was the end of that. But Daddy knew what every ex-military guy knew: short-range rifles are for hunting; long-gun rifles are for killing people.
The round that killed Charlie Kirk is ONLY for killing people. Not only is it more than 3” long, the one the shooter used was a modified round. I can’t seem to find more information than that at present. I don’t know if that means an exploding bullet or what, but just the SIZE of a .30-06 Springfield bullet fired from so powerful a weapon is always devastating. A chest, head, or neck hit means you die. An abdomen wound means a slower, but no less certain, death. A hit to any limb shatters it, and blood loss alone is probably terminal.
I happen to know a retired long-gun sniper. He did 30 years in the Marines, was a special-forces scout, served in Vietnam and did every Central American war in the 1990s. He ended up a battalion commander for the Marines and for NATO and trained a bunch of special-forces guys.
Like every other high-ranking military person I’ve ever known, he does NOT believe this kind of weaponry and ordnance belongs anywhere near the citizenry. He also does not think they are necessary or desirable for use by the police. It’s too much power, and, ALLEGEDLY, the police are not out to kill American citizens but to deter violence and kill only when necessary—and for them, a pistol is better, too.
These weapons—like most of the rest we see in the hands of Robinson’s gun-toting family—are not civilian weapons, and they are also not hunting weapons.
THESE ARE BATTLEFIELD WEAPONS, and militia guys and those with a questionable grip on their sense of manhood just LOVE them.
In Texas we’ve got school authorities teaching six-year-olds how to use a bleed kit to prevent a classmate WHO’S BEEN SHOT from dying before alleged adults get there to help.
Charlie Kirk was dead wrong about everything, and his craven response that ordinary Americans—INCLUDING CHILDREN—can be sacrificed to the lust for guns that HE said was about protecting “our God-given rights” was and is debased.
And this jerk Robinson—or whoever did this since we do NOT have a conviction—had no business having this gun.
I hold his parents responsible.
I hold the NRA responsible.
I hold the U.S. government responsible.
I hold the militias responsible.
Charlie Kirk was a vile, self-congratulating racist, xenophobe, misogynist camera hog who unleashed thousands on professors with a list he put together, telling them then to harass and intimidate these people. They’re starting to speak out. That’s good.
Now it’s time for the rest of us to press this issue until we get a response that shelves these guns forever.
When the Australians had a mass shooting, they bought back all the military-grade weapons in the country, and they haven’t had a mass shooting since.
Enough. This IS a problem that can be solved.
What an INCREDIBLE story about your mother's bravery, and your experience of that terrible day! Did your other sister survive? Re what Australia did: awe-inspiring. Truly restored my faith in (Australian) human nature. I read a very scary post written by a Kirk-lover. He said, "You libtards know that WE own all the guns and WE know how to shoot and we WILL shoot. You guys are losers."
