This is obvious to those who are paying attention, but the masses that matter are still oblivious. They think a Christian Nationalist cult, is as ridiculous as America having a White Supremacy problem. which are very true and real problems.
YES to every word. The belief cult existed BEFORE the orange creep, remember The Family, Tea Party, tele-evangelists... but he allowed them to come out from under the rocks. Combined with Dark Money and the demagogues who couldn't care less about the beliefs but manipulate those who do, this is a VERY serious threat to our democracy.
I agree wholeheartedly that protecting the vote is of utmost importance. With that being said, I think it only correct to also apply equal importance in the immediate sense and greater importance in the long-term future looking sense to the matter of Education. To be sure I am not merely advocating for systems of education as they are currently operating, no, but rather it seems to me that there must be a great reckoning and reevaluation that needs to take place in order to secure a more equitable understanding of what it means for both educators and by extension students, who ultimately comprise both groups as time advances by becoming the individuals who contribute both willing and unwillingly, intentionally and unintentionally, knowingly and unknowingly to the great divide that has created and currently confuses society overall.
In other words-- why is it that one group (exclusive-oriented) can call for excluding individuals who simply want to live a life free of judgment for their own peculiarities, insert whatever might come to mind that fits your chosen politico-religious bent, while another group (inclusive-oriented) calls for including individuals who, again, simply want to live a life free of judgment for their own peculiarities, insert whatever might come to mind that fits your chosen politico-religious bent?
It really does come down to creating, developing, and sustaining a common mid-set that ideally works for as many individual persons as possible. The answer is to be found in education, but the problem is also to be found in education. How can we cut this Gordian Knot in such a way as to preserve humanity in some way that does not result in a dystopian or utopian world, for either one or the other in and of itself is destined to fail.
Dr Sinclair, I found you from your comments on Robert Reich's substack. I think you are great. And speaking of Christofascists, I live in an area of Southern California that is very religious and red (really, tbh, purple, but people are not voting, imo). The Temecula school board was recently taken over by people influenced by a church near Temecula. It seems a coordinated attack. They are going to fire the Superintendent of schools this Tuesday. When that happens, and they put in their own Superintendent, that person will have the power to fire teachers, if I understand this correctly. Yes, a lot of people want this, but imo not the majority. We've gotten the attention of Gov Newsome, but - what can HE do? A recall of these 3 school board members has just begun, but if successful, will be long after this very popular Superintendent is fired. What can we do? Also, what is their endgame? Are they trying to get federal funding for Christian schools? I have friends with trans children here. What are they to do with all this hate? I could go on, but I'll stop here.
Wonderful warning and call to action. But I'm deeply concerned that they already have their hands on entirely too much of the wealth and power in America and I fear that their position is, as the Gun Nuts (capitalization purposeful) are fond of saying, "you can have it when you pry it from my cold, dead hand."
If it didn't reek of impotent bravado, I'd be tempted at this point to say, "Make my day, Sucker."

Sooooooo true.

Where is the ideal societal singularity point?
