An excellent film! Hilarious and one of my all time favourites! Perfectly cast and brilliant from start to finish ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Our young daughter named our newly acquired ginger gentleman Agador Spartacus, a cat among cats, he was with us for the better part of 20 years and is still missed. I had already seen La Cage aux Folles and was anxious about how Hollywood often totally misses the point in remaking French films - but I didn't remember that Elaine May was involved and if I had known that I would have been more confident - but with a great cast, great writing, great performances it's brilliant. I especially keyed in on my recollection of Gene Hackman, as they're trying to leave the club in that big dance number expressing a desperation felt by so many people - "I don't wanna be the only girl not dancing".

That comment is where I think Elaine May NAILED the character of the senator, so locked in gender roles that the minute he's got a wig on, he's a woman!

I needed to see this today. Brilliant acting by all. I also had forgotten Elaine May had done the adaptation. It is masterful.

Thank you for sharing this joyful post with clips.

I was so depressed yesterday I watched it all the way through, and then started it again. It's like The Martian. It's so uplifting I've practically worn out my streaming link!

Interesting I had a very low energy day yesterday- not depressed though that happens sometimes. How could it not with everything swirling around.

You chose a good uplifting distraction.
