Robert Reich's Brilliancy: A Canada-Mexico-Japan-EU-UK Free Trade Zone
Only making the eagle scream will plunge Trump World into rationality.
I hate to admit it’s come to this, but it has. It’s like having to drink castor oil or get rabies shots. But the simple truth is that the only way our allies can save us—as the eternally brilliant Robert Reich points out—is to create a free trade zone with each other that locks America out. A strategic economic partnership against us would hurt us badly financially in the short term, but it may be the only way to save the country.
Trump’s innate destructiveness and will-to-punish every challenger, no matter the cost to the country—combined with Musk’s gutting of the very government agencies that were investigating his companies’ rampant and grievous safety violations—has our own stock markets plunging and our own citizens frightened over a deteriorating climate, health care contaminated with a madman’s conspiracy theories, elder financial security, education, women’s basic freedoms, and the very future of the country as a democracy: Trump has already told us that the 2024 election would be the last.
HE MEANS IT. HE MEANS IT.
Then there is his greed. The guy with the gold-plated toilets has dragged America into the gutter of predatory expansionism in his lust to pummel Canada into becoming America’s 51st state and an entire subcontinent—Greenland—into becoming the 52nd.
The only way out of this—the only way to make spineless Republican Davids throw a stone or two at this Goliath they have made—is for the rest of the world to stand up and get this stangled eagle to scream.
I’m sorry about this, but Reich is right. He is absolutely right.
Two things:
Please read in full Reich’s short post from last night.
Please subscribe to Reich’s newsletter as he is the wind beneath everyone’s wings right now, and he will not be silenced. You’ll feel better every day.
And if you would, please share this post and subscribe to PolitiSage if you haven’t already. And please opt for a paid subscription if you can. We have no paywall and we’ll keep it that way. But we definitely need some support, too.
I totally agree with Robert Reich's ideas (including those which I hadn't thought of). I can already see that there are others, at levels of power and authority WAY above my pay grade, are also thinking, and beginning to act on this idea. There has already been a tripartite East-Asian agreement along these lines. There are discussions going on in Paris and London, not to mention in Canada, which might lead to something along those lines. And Mexico is interestingly quiet, in a way which often indicates that something is stirring beneath the surface.
Thank you !! Totally correct about educating oneself by reading the best and Robert Reich is that!
