Language nitpick: The Trump direction to Proud Boys was "stand back and stand by," which is an instruction of readiness for future action, not "stand down," an order to end an alert/militant posture.

THANK YOU, WIZARD. I will correct as soon as I get a minute! And that's NOT a nitpick: it's a serious mistake and a crucial correction. Cheers, M.

I've been paying attention to the mra meatheads for a long time now and they are some of the most disturbing and disgusting individuals imaginable. Such seething hatred that it makes you wonder if they've ever even met a woman in real life.

Later in this series we're going to be looking at some psychological stuff--especially privilege. Privilege, because we're often born into it, feels like a RIGHT. So when it's taken away, the privileged feel abused and robbed. Going along with that is privilege bestows false self-esteem. You feel good! You feel, actually, good because you feel like you're better than some people. Whites have false self-esteem related to feeling better than blacks and other people of color. And as we'll also see, white supremacy is also tied to both religious supremacy (Christianity) and patriarchal hegemony. So white males feel a kind of triple better-than over any people of color, any people who aren't Christian, and all women. Well, when all that gets threatened by the feminism, human rights, and religious rights, you get a very, very big backlash. And men who now can't get women back into the kitchen feel a loss of self-esteem, which is interwoven with supremacy. Loss of self-esteem triggers a SHAME AND HUMILIATION REACTION, and that is the most difficult of all psychological problems to treat. And that's what we're looking at in massive numbers. Mass rage that strutting around telling a woman what to do just isn't panning out. In the last two years, numbers of these guys on the dark web and manosphere have skyrocketed. It was my son who sat me down one night and told me about what was happening to some of his friends. They want to turn back the clock. They think the Christian right and Trump can make that happen. We're really under threat now, especially the younger ones of us. They have a target painted all over them.

I know. I've been reading we hunted the mammoth for quite some time now and I've seen what those guys say in the chat rooms. I look at all men now in a completely different way, wondering if under that customer service smile is a lurking monster just biding his time. I'm terrified. Absolutely fucking terrified.

To my good fortune, I've had little to no 'knowing' contact in person with such as these, however, my continuing perception has been that they just haven't grown up. Perhaps an overly simplistic description reflecting a lack of direct knowledge.

I HAVE known some of these men -- and my son has watched some of his friends, in their 40s, 50s and even 60s, get lured into this virulently hostile and extremely dangerous mindset. All of them are ... well ... "un-adult." Most seem arrogant in the ways that adolescents (male and female) can get. Some seem to have very young adolescent introjects. And some are children, even raging little toddlers. They are lonely, they cannot form happy relationships, and they are furiously angry they're not getting sex. AND a few months in this mindset, and you get to excuse your faulty people skills by projecting that women are total bitches, conniving, shallow, stupid, manipulative, and gold-digging and that IT'S THEIR RIGHT AS A MALE TO HAVE SEX AND TO BEAT THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF A WOMAN IF SHE DOES NOT DO AS YOU SAY. These "men" also do not want to have to compete in the marketplace with a woman. Ivy League schools have now put out rafts of research that seem to say, on balance, the only way to keep a woman down is to shut her out. Women are better managers, especially with diverse teams. They are more reliable, more even-tempered, play fewer games. Their response to failure is to teach and buddy-up people with others that balance out their strengths and weaknesses. Women are more productive than their male counterparts. They are better team players in general and far better communicators. When the Islamic Republic of Iran realized women were being promoted faster than men, they placed quotas on women's participation in business. They took their participation down to less than 50% and fired the rest and sent them home. They placed men in management positions and demoted women to the typing pool and slapped a glass ceiling 1/2" above their heads. The upshot of female success in the marketplace is that MEN LOSE MONEY. And power. And prestige. And influence. And they resent sometimes be managed by a woman, which makes it more likely that they will eventually fail out of the positions they have. The money issue also comes up in the anti-abortion stance because if women can't control pregnancy, they lose years and years out of their potential work lives. That couldn't suit some men more. Weak men want to restrict women to the home--Andrew Tate even wants to take away their rights to drive, vote, and have their own bank accounts and credit cards. These people want Saudi Arabia. Over my dead body.

Well, so many men are so wonderful that these terrible men can't dent how I feel about them in general. Particularly, my father and my son have been so incredible that I know what a man looks like and acts like when he's got a really healthy psyche. Also, I had two bosses both of whom were incredible men, deeply intelligent and kind and remarkable managers. Both were gay, though I don't know if that actually means anything. ... Meanwhile, the genome of the human male is mutating faster than any know mutation going on with any species on this earth. This is an incredible destabilizing and confusing and pressured time for men, and I think in terms of evolution, it has to do with the maxing out of any possibly sustainable level of population. Men's very unique attributes have made it possible for humanity to survive: their strength, their organization, their inventiveness--all have meant we didn't just die off as a species. Now those very things--and the capacity for and willingness to go to war -- are the things that threaten the survival of the species. I don't know how a special subset is expected to do a 180 on so much elements of his make-up and NOT go a tad off the rails. It's dangerous, and some men are really HORRIBLE PEOPLE, but the backed-up perspective is really kinda dizzying.

Those are not kilts! Those are schoolgirl skirts and blouses. The dudes are in drag! Please, someone should tell them how silly they look in canary yellow miniskirts, and get them off the streets for grooming young men.

I want to help you but try as I might I can’t seem to figure out where or how to set up a paid subscription. It says I can’t do that in the app. Please let me know where I need to be to do this.

I m a 75 year old feminist. I’m in shock over all the crap happening around me.

You help make sense, if that’s possible, of the male insanity I am witnessing.

I have a 48 year old daughter who’s never known a different way. I remember when I thought I was pregnant as a teenager and abortion was illegal and male coworkers made more money than I for doing the exact same work. I’m scared of the direction Trump and his allies are already taking away my rights.

Thank you for the hard work and courage it takes for you to write what you do. You definitely are helping me cope. May Divine Mother protect you and yours.

OK, try this. FIRST ... UNSUBSCRIBE. Then, resubscribe and when it takes you to the subscription page, choose whatever paid subscription you like. ... Let me know what happens ... And thanks. Help appreciated. I spend dozens of hours every week writing, and most of our subscriptions are free, so it gets tough! Thank you!!! .... Meanwhile, I am desperately afraid for the younger women. They are being targeted by incredibly men and whole political parties and their own courts. ... I am reminded that Iranian women were SHOCKED when the Ayatollah took all their rights away. Iran is called the women's STOLEN REVOLUTION. And it's now 41 years later, with rights lost in 1983, that women have tried and tried to become free again and have only had some hope LITERALLY THIS MORNING when a reformist became president of Iran. THIS MORNING. It will still be tough, but the writing is on the wall for the religious bullies. But Iran is an object lesson for those who think it can't happen here. Iranian women didn't think it could happen there, either.
