Thanks, Morgaan. I’m beginning to understand where your deep knowledge of the historical contexts for religion and fascism comes from. How long did it take to complete your doctoral dissertation? Where from? Undergrad and masters? My suspicion is these pursuits have been a life long effort of curiosity and I’m in awe of your accomplishments.

Liberalism and Republicanism can be realized as restraints on power: no idea and power can dominate all others; a natural freedom and balance of powers rather than progress or enlightenment?

I could not possibly agree more. Opposites tend to soften each other and prevent the deadly tyranny--liberal or conservative--to which singular authority tends to consign individuals, groups, and whole cultures. The people who quest for total domination are driven by profound doubt: only by making YOU comply with their vision can they feel secure about their beliefs even for a little while. It always comes back, and then they start to punish.
