E. Jean Carroll Cleans Tacopina's Clock in Trump Rape Trial
Jean has a Substack page. It's wonderful. Please visit her this weekend.
Suddenly, Judge Lewis Kaplan, presiding over the rape trial against Donald Trump—brought by E. Jean Carroll—had had enough. Tacopina was mid-sentence, but that didn’t stop Kaplan from cutting off his badgering and sending the jury home until the trial resumes May 1st at 10:00 a.m.
Of course, Tacopina, doing his brilliant impersonation of Tony Soprano, had badgered a flawless E. Jean Carroll for hours of questioning, and set a new low bar for attorney conduct. Michael Epner of The Daily Beast wrote:
This may have been the most tone-deaf cross-examination in a rape trial since To Kill A Mockingbird.
Tacopina asked the same questions over and over again—a tactic designed to weary and ANGER the witness into contradicting herself of reacting with a frustrated outburst. Carroll was unaffected. Kaplan warned Tacopina to “move on.”
Kaplan had already warned Tacopina that the online slurs and outright lies told by Donald Trump and Eric Trump would stop or there would be further legal “liability” with a potential of criminal litigation against the smashmouth Mar-a-Lago male element.
Accusing a man of rape is opening yourself to being raped a second time by the same aggressor. The trial will be full of accusations that you:
enjoyed being raped.
had a previous lascivious sex life so you had it coming.
asked for it.
dressed in a tempting fashion.
made a bad choice about where you were.
had too much to drink and are misremembering.
You’ll also be told that
it was really consensual and now you’re lying about it.
it never happened.
you’re lying and brought the case for money.
you were drunk and confused: the assailant was another, unnamed man.
didn’t scream so it being raped wasn’t a problem for you.
didn’t go to the police, so what are you bitching about now?
have no evidence.
should have come forward sooner.
are after publicity.
are too ugly to rape or fuck … This is one of the comments Trump made specifically about E. Jean Carroll. I use the f-word advisedly since I don’t think one can associate Donald Trump’s actions towards the women he’s aggressed with the term making love by any stretch of the imagination.
Over the course of this long weekend, every news outlet in America (and abroad) have come to the same conclusion:
Carroll cleaned Tacopina’s clock. It couldn’t have happened to a more dirtier bully.
